Premcar has been brought on board to 'validate' Stockman.
Chery has called in Australian specialist Premcar to undertake "in-market testing and validation" of its Stockman ute, which is scheduled to go on sale over there and over here towards the end of the year.
Premcar is an Australian engineering company that's known for tuning international models to better suit Down Under conditions. Its most high-profile recent project was an extensive suspension job on the Nissan Navara.
Chery has not shared whether changes will actually be made to the truck, but says it has asked Premcar to "assess Chery’s ride and handling tuning before the Stockman’s local release".
"Australia is one of the world's most demanding ute markets, and we know our customers expect a vehicle that performs confidently across everything from urban streets to highways, construction sites and remote off-road tracks," says Lucas Harris, chief operating officer of Chery Motor Australia.
“Chery has gone the extra mile with its first-ever Stockman ute,” says Bernie Quinn, CEO of Premcar. “Chery has created very specific attributes for the Stockman’s ride and handling and we are very pleased to help them test and validate their work in a variety of Australian conditions.”
Stockman combines a 2.5-litre turbo-diesel engine with Chery's Super Hybrid System (SHS). The powertrain produces a combined 350kW/800Nm; the hybrid system provides up to 100km of electric-only driving range (NEDC).
Braked towing is 3500kg. The chassis has double wishbone front suspension and heavy-duty rear leaf springs. Ground clearance is 247mm.
It's big: 5450mm long, 2010mm wide and 1890mm high, with a 3250mm wheelbase.
