Nintendo and co-developers Game Freak and Omega Force have announced that Pokémon Pokopia will receive the first part of its Expansion Pass on August 5th for Nintendo Switch 2. Titled Bubbly Basin, the new content expands the world of Pokopia by introducing underwater exploration for Ditto, alongside a new town, new Pokémon to meet, and more to explore. Check out a seven-minute overview trailer below!

As seen above, all players who own Pokémon Pokopia will also get a free update to their game on August 5th. It will give Ditto the ability to go underwater after being taught the Dive move from Manaphy, a Mythic-type water Pokémon. Players will also need to have raised the environment level in Bleak Beach alongside knowing how to jump and to know the move Surf. Once they learn Dive, players will be able to explore previously inaccessible underwater regions in the base game.

Bubbly Basin brings a new town to Pokopia where a lone Popplio will ask you to help them restore it to its former glory. Players will build new habitats, attracting Pokémon to help with the revitalisation efforts. The expansion content introduces buoyant blocks, a new type of building block, to make floating houses. New ocean-themed furniture and decor will also be available to use in customising both the town and places built. Pokémon with the Water speciality can grow crops underwater, including the newly added watermelon. Pokémon with the Generate speciality can power street lamps and machines to light up Bubbly Basin at night.

New information on the yet-unnamed Part 2 of the Expansion Pass was revealed, which introduces the ability to add accessories to Ditto and other Pokémon, coming in late 2026. Part 3 will introduce another new town, and is coming in 2027. Players who purchase the Expansion Pass ($34.99 USD) will gain access to all three parts as they release, a Dynamic Ditto print recipe, and 30x Rare Pokémetal Ingots, which are claimable until August 31st, 2027.

As someone who watches Pokémon from afar with fondness, it’s continuously cool to see spin-offs from the mainline series gain such traction from fans both new and old. I hope this trend continues.

Pokémon Pokopia is available now for Nintendo Switch 2.
